Families living near or below the poverty line often can't afford school supplies for their children; this is the case for most of the students with which we work. Having access to basic infrastructure and the right school supplies is the first step in doing well in school and that is why our Building for the Future program was created.
We support students with uniforms, textbooks, materials and school infrastructure projects, like: desks, classrooms and recycling storage centers, among others. Look at the photos below to see some of the work that we have done.
HELP US REACH OUR GOAL, GET INVOLVED!
LA INDEPENDENCIA SCHOOL
(Lapa Rios )
We solved the water shortage problems at the Independecia School by implementing a system of rainwater harvesting, and a system to improve the collection and distribution of potable water. Both of them run on solar power!! This year the dream is to power the entire school with solar energy. Help us make this happen!
LA ORQUIDEA SCHOOL
( Lapa Rios )
La Orquidea school will begin their school year in February with a brand new multi-purpose classroom and play area, a beautiful project we completed in partnership with the organization Surf For Life. This gives the school the opportunity to provide music, and library, and PE to its students, and to have a space for assemblies and other school activities.
LAGUNA DE TORTUGUERO
( TORTUGA LODGE & GARDENS )
Classroom supplies two years in a row, 86 new desks, rebuilding roofs and ceilings, and replacing warped doors! That’s how we’ve been helping Laguna de Tortuguero. This year, help us give the kindergartner’s decent restrooms.
( Arenas del Mar )
We’ve supplied the students with much needed school materials, textbooks, and uniforms, and we have rebuilt the dining hall, refurbished restrooms and built a small recycling storage area for the community. This year we’re going bigger, with a brand new school! Help us make it happen!
PADRE NELLO SCHOOL
( Jicaro Island Ecolodge )
In 2014, we achieved our biggest infrastructure project (yet) with the installation of solar panels for electricity and water filters for safe drinking water; in 2015 we built completely new restrooms, and in 2016 with the active help of parents, repaired all the damaged desks and repainted the entire school!
